Fibro Scan

Fibro Scan

FibroScan, also known as transient elastography, is a non-invasive imaging technique used to assess the health and stiffness of the liver. It provides a quantitative measurement of liver stiffness, which is a key indicator of liver fibrosis (scarring) and cirrhosis. FibroScan is particularly valuable in the diagnosis and monitoring of chronic liver diseases, such as hepatitis B and C, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and alcoholic liver disease. During a FibroScan procedure, a specialized ultrasound probe is placed on the skin overlying the liver. The probe emits low-frequency sound waves, which pass through the liver tissue and measure the speed of their passage.
